What is obviously needed is a playoff....teams have finished undefeeated over the last 2 years and not had a shot at the title - obviously the WAC and Mountain West are not as good as the Big 12....but in the same breath...the Big 12 is nowhere near as good as the SEC....further adding to Alabama's superiority.

We need a playoff. The current system sucks. I'd love to see Boise State play Texas - it would be tough to argue that wouldn't be a good game. Obviously, Texas would be favored - but the desparity between those teams is not much.

Dude, even if your playing the lions, it is a RARE feat that you have a chance to march down, on the road, and kick the game winning field goal, with 4 turnovers in the game. And with farve throwing that interception late, giving the Vikings 5 turnovers, the Vikings STILL had a chance to win the game, as it went into ot.

Turnovers are a part of football, but how many times did the Vikings get inside the 10 with zero to show? They marched up and down that field with ease, and limited the saints to 79 second half yards?

If you get 5 turnovers in the NFL, the game should never be in question at the end of regulation. Plus, the phanto

Setting aside my proverbial black and gold glasses here, since when did a team going up and down the field on another ever make them better?

From someone who has watched New Orleans all year, believe me, it happens numerous times to us every game. Our defense is not fearsome like Baltimore's, but they've made the plays when it counts, as you saw Sunday night.

And those 5 turnovers that put the ball back in our offense's hands....did you forget Minny has a pretty good defense too? No sportswriter out there genuinely thought it would be a runaway for either team.

And to answer your question about how many times they got inside the red zone with nothing to show for it, if they really were the better team Sunday, they would have finished their drives and removed all doubt.

Your case may hold water in the regular season, but in the playoffs it's all magnified.
The better teams make the clutch plays.

If you tell me that favre's last interception or the fumbles In the backfield are the result of something the saints did, then your glasses are still on. Nobody finished more drives with td's this season than the Vikings. What happened Sunday was not anything the saints did, but what the Vikings failed in doing. So if that makes them better, then fine. They're better

Peyton manning does not have those types of brain farts.

The fact that they were the best team at scoring td's on their drives for 17 games shows the Vikings are finishers. The fact they did not do that against the saints shows that it's probably a misnomer and that's why they play the games. Saints fans will say that the reason is their opportunistic d, most others will say that is was mental flatulance on the part of farve. And that's something he's done his whole career, against good and bad teams.

Vikings had 6 fumbles and 2 picks in that game.
The ONLY fumble that was not forced was the one you keep harping on, so saying it was nothing the Saints did is pretty short-sighted.
And Favre's mental flatulence really isn't much of an excuse either. He was hit, battered, and bruised all night long, and even admitted such in his post-game comments. His first pick was also forced, 2nd one you could make your case for.

I just don't understand how a team that trailed New Orleans in the standings for much of the year, had 2 slip ups before the Saints lost their first one, got smashed and then thumped by not one but two non-playoff teams late in the season, and then ran into a defense that created 5 turnovers in a game that had been forecasted for most of the year, is considered a better team because they "finished drives all year long" but not when it counted.

As for Peyton, he's a great QB, but he is beatable, and 181 career INT's shows that he does make mistakes, too.

Dude? Really?. A ut d that allowed nearly 40? How many td's did the ut d score? No comparison. The ut championship was driven by a very dynamic individual. The saints had a tremendous coaching decision, very efficient qb play with brees tying the record for super bowl completions(and Peyton nearly tying it with 31) and a defensive touchdown to ice it.

one of those games where you kick the other team in the teeth all day and lose. As a team, I do think new Orleans is better than Indy, save the qb, and I was wrong last Sunday.

As I team I still think minn is better than new Orleans, but if your just using the score as an indicator, then is Dallas better than new Orleans based on their victory? Or was it the cowboys day that one time?

This truly is a pointless argument. The saints are champs and the tide are champs, and in the end those were the best teams when it counted, regardless of what you or I think.
